Born and raised in Eastern Washington, Porter first started climbing Washington’s volcanoes at age 12. He raced cross country and track during high school and backpacked in the Cascades in his free time. After moving to Bellingham in 2016, his affinity for the vertical grew. While attending Western Washington University and running cross country and track for the University, Porter began finding his passion for difficult alpine climbs (especially ice climbs), as well as ski mountaineering. He began guiding in 2018 and enjoys sharing the unique alpine environments with others. Porter has guided in Mexico, Antarctica, Denali, and Nepal, where he has summited 2 8000m peak,s including Everest and Lhotse in the storied Khumbu valley. Porter currently works as a Firefighter for the Eastside Fire Service.
