Oregon is home to Smith Rock - the birthplace of sport climbing in North America. You could spend a life time climbing here and not complete every route. Mt. Hood rises from the surrounding forests with over 7,000 feet of prominence and offers some of the best mountaineering routes the state has to offer. Not only does Oregon boast some truly inspiring terrain for climbing, it also has some epic skiing to be had. From sunset climbing on the Monkey Face in Smith Rock, to a ski mountaineering descent of Mt. Hood - Oregon delivers.

spring

March - June

Spring is an excellent time of year to rock climb and backcountry ski in Oregon and begins to offer good weather windows to climb and ski Mount Hood. Smith Rock has ideal temperatures this time of year.

Summer

June - September

Summer in Oregon is the ideal time to hone your mountaineering skills on the iconic Mt. Hood until early July, explore the thousands of routes at Smith Rock, or develop your mountain skills on a rocky scramble.

Fall

September - December

Fall brings agreeable temps to the climbing mecca of Smith Rock and good conditions to explore Oregon's rugged peaks without snow.

Winter

December - March

Winter blankets Oregon's mountains with incredible powder, supporting excellent skiing and opportunities to develop as a mountaineer with challenging winter ascents of Mt. Hood.
