FAQ's
FAQ's
What climbing experience do I need for Mile High Club?
We recommend some outdoor climbing experience and the ability to comfortably follow or toprope 5.10 outside. If you can handle those grades outdoors, you're ready for this route! Our guides will teach you multi-pitch systems, rope management, and alpine movement techniques. This is a perfect step into the world of alpine rock climbing for climbers with a solid climbing foundation.
What makes Mile High Club such a special climb?
Mile High Club truly has it all—excellent climbing on solid rock, a stunning position on a beautiful arete, and incredible alpine views. The route features varied and excellent climbing, combined with a surprisingly easy approach - it's become a modern classic for good reason. You'll understand why this route gets so much love when you're standing on that summit!
How long is the climbing day?
Plan for a full day! We typically start early in the morning and finish in the early evening.
What's the approach like?
The approach is surprisingly easy for an alpine route! You'll hike about 2.5 miles on the Sunrise Mine trail, then leave the trail for a well-cairned traverse across talus fields toward the buttress. The off-trail section is straightforward, passing through a couple stands of trees before reaching the obvious red gully right of the route. From there, scramble up rubble-strewn ledges to the lone fir tree and the start of the climb.
When is the best time to climb Mile High Club?
The route is climbable from May through October, with July through September offering the most reliable conditions. Early season (May-June) can involve steep snow on the approach and in the red gully—bring an ice axe and crampons if climbing early. Mid to late summer provides snow-free approaches and the best weather windows. The route's low elevation and southern exposure give it a long season compared to other alpine routes.
What should I bring for this climb?
You'll need a daypack with climbing shoes, harness, helmet, plenty of water (2-3 liters), food for a long day, extra layers, and sun protection. Our guides provide the ropes, quickdraws, and all technical gear needed for the climb and rappels. Early season, add an ice axe and crampons for snowy approaches. We'll send you a detailed gear list after booking to ensure you're fully prepared.
