FAQ's
FAQ's
What climbing experience do I need for Edge of Time Arete?
You should have some outdoor rock climbing experience and be comfortable following 5.9 moves. No prior alpine experience is required—our guides will teach you all the multi-pitch systems and rope management you need. If you're a solid gym climber who's done some outdoor climbing and ready to experience alpine rock in a spectacular setting, this is a perfect route for you!
What makes Edge of Time Arete special?
Edge of Time combines everything great about alpine rock: a striking arete with spectacular exposure, solid rock with good protection, incredible position high above Pineapple Basin, and sweeping Cascade views.
How does Edge of Time compare to The Tooth?
Edge of Time and The Tooth are neighbors in Pineapple Basin and make for excellent comparisons. Edge of Time is longer (7 pitches vs 4), slightly harder (5.9 vs 5.4), and more exposed with the arete position. It's a natural next step after The Tooth—if you loved The Tooth's alpine rock experience and want more sustained climbing with greater exposure, Edge of Time is perfect. Both share the same beautiful approach and alpine setting.
What's the approach like to The Fang?
The approach begins from the Snow Lake Trailhead at Alpental. The approach is scenic throughout, with alpine lakes, meadows, and dramatic peaks surrounding you.
When is the best time to climb Edge of Time Arete?
The route is climbable from mid-July through September, with August typically offering the most reliable conditions. Early season may have snow on the approach, while late season offers dry conditions but potentially colder temperatures.
What should I bring for this climb?
You'll need a daypack with climbing shoes, harness, helmet, plenty of water, food for a full day, extra layers for the alpine environment, and sun protection. Our guides provide all ropes, quickdraws, and technical climbing gear needed for the route. We can also rent harnesses and helmets if needed. We'll send you a detailed gear list after booking to ensure you're fully prepared for your adventure.
