FAQ's
FAQ's
What should I bring with me?
Come prepared for a day in the snow. Use our linked Glacier Climbing gear list as a starting point, no need to bring overnight gear. We rent harnesses, helmets, crampons, and ice axes. Feel free to reach out with any specific gear questions!
Do I need to bring lunch?
We recommend bringing snack food to last you around 6 hours. Left over pizza, cheese and crackers, carrots and hummus, smoked salmon, peanut butter pretzels, and other favorite snacks! We will not break for a specific lunch time and will not have the ability to cook.
What will I learn?
Our guide team is well versed in all alpine disciplines and we can somewhat tailor the lessons to the groups desires. At a minimum we will cover ice axe arrest, snow anchors, snow science, reading glaciers, the basics of haul systems (6:1 Drop C system), and will run through scenarios.
What if the weather is inclement?
We will teach in all but the most extreme of weather conditions. If the forecast is looking dangerous we will be in contact about rescheduling. If it is raining, snowing, windy, and or cold, we will teach - this will give us the opportunity to teach the skills necessary to take care of ourselves in extreme environments.
Who is the Crevasse Rescue Essentials course for?
This course is for anyone wishing to get into mountaineering in order to ultimately climb on their own, for those wanting to gain skills and confidence before joining us for a guided climb, as a refresher for seasoned climbers, or as an explorartory glimpse into the wonderful world of mountaineering. If you are unsure whether this course is a good fit for you, contact us!
Where will my course be?
For a succesful mountaineering course we need snow, so we will go where the snow is. In the spring we will likely teach near Snoqualmie Pass. Later in the summer we will follow the snow higher into the mountains, likely around Mt. Baker.
