FAQ's
FAQ's
What climbing and mountaineering experience do I need for the traverse?
The Torment-Forbidden Traverse is an advanced alpine objective requiring solid climbing and mountaineering experience. You should be comfortable with multi-pitch alpine rock climbing (5.6), glacier travel and crevasse navigation, steep snow climbing, and moving efficiently in exposed terrain.
What makes the Torment-Forbidden Traverse so special?
This is one of the most aesthetic alpine traverses in North America. You're linking two dramatic peaks along a spectacular ridgeline that combines everything the North Cascades are famous for: complex glacier navigation, steep snow traverses, exposed ridge climbing including the legendary 'Sidewalk in the Sky,' and Forbidden's knife-edge West Ridge finish. The sustained commitment, technical variety, and jaw-dropping position make this a crown jewel of Cascadian alpinism.
What's the camping like?
Boston Basin is deep in North Cascades National Park, accessed via Cascade River Road. The basin itself is one of the most spectacular alpine camps in the Cascades—wildflower meadows surrounded by dramatic granite peaks and glaciers. This is a genuine escape into the mountains
When is the best season for the Torment-Forbidden Traverse?
July through September offers the most reliable conditions.
What if the weather turns?
Safety first. Guides may adjust route, timing, or turn around. A summit is never guaranteed; a great experience is.
What's included and what should I bring?
We provide all group camping gear (tents, stoves, cookware), climbing equipment (ropes, protection, technical gear), lightweight dinners and breakfasts at camp, and permits. You're responsible for your personal gear, snacks and lunch for all three days, and any rental items you need (crampons, ice axe, harness, helmet—let us know when booking). You'll need a pack capable of carrying 40-50 lbs for the approach. We'll send a detailed gear list after booking, and we're always available to answer questions about preparation for this climb.
