Overview
Classic North Cascades Traverse
Link Mount Torment to Forbidden Peak along a spectacular alpine ridgeline. This is one of the most celebrated traverses in the Cascades, combining everything that makes North Cascades climbing legendary: complex route-finding, varied technical terrain, and sustained commitment in remote wilderness.
Alpine Climbing on Granite Ridges
Move roped together across sharp aretes, navigate gendarmes, and climb exposed granite with glaciers dropping away on both sides. The route features the famous 'Sidewalk in the Sky' traverse and finishes with Forbidden's iconic 50 Classic Climb - the knife-edge West Ridge.
Glacier, Snow, and Rock Combined
This route demands the full alpine skill set: glacier travel with crevasse navigation, steep snow traverses (some with ice), technical rock climbing up to 5.6, and efficient movement across complex terrain. It's a true test of alpine climbing ability and endurance.
Remote North Cascades National Park Setting
Approach through Boston Basin, one of the most spectacular alpine cirques in the Cascades. Bivouac in stunning alpine settings with wildflower meadows and dramatic glacier views. This is wilderness alpinism at its finest—remote, wild, and utterly beautiful.

Approach to Boston Basin
Meet your guide at the Cascade River Road trailhead and begin the scenic approach into Boston Basin. The trail climbs steadily through old-growth forest before emerging into subalpine meadows with wildflowers and dramatic views of the surrounding peaks. We'll gain significant elevation with full packs as we make our way to high camp in the basin. Once at camp, we'll set up tents with spectacular views of both Torment and Forbidden rising above. Your guides will review the traverse plan in detail, check gear, and go over rope systems, glacier travel techniques, and the climbing ahead. Enjoy dinner while watching alpenglow on the peaks before resting up for the big day ahead.
DAY 2
Torment-Forbidden Traverse & Return to Camp
Alpine start well before dawn for a big and amazing day in the North Cascades! Summit Mount Torment, then descend and rappel making your way off Torment and towards Forbidden. Navigate glacier crossings, steep snow traverses, and exposed ridge climbing as you work your way across the spectacular ridgeline. Move through varied alpine terrain including the famous 'Sidewalk in the Sky' section, negotiating gendarmes and airy positions along the way. Eventually join the standard West Ridge route and complete the knife-edge climb to Forbidden's summit. After celebrating on top and taking in the panoramic North Cascades views, descend via rappels and downclimbing back to Boston Basin and high camp. This fulfulling day covers some of the most spectacular alpine terrain in the Cascades.
DAY 3

After a well-earned rest and breakfast in camp, break down tents and begin the hike back down to the trailhead. The descent through Boston Basin and the forest below offers one last chance to reflect on the incredible traverse. We'll celebrate your completion of this beautiful.
