FAQ's
FAQ's
Do I need prior mountaineering experience?
No mountaineering experiecne is required, although having a foundation of hiking is very helpful. This expedition is an accessible adventure for those new to trekking and mountaineering, offering stunning Andean views and a memorable summit without requiring extensive experience.
How heavy is my pack?
Plan for 15 - 20 lbs during our approach to Basecamp which includes personal gear, water, and food for the day. We will have mules for each day into and out of our Basecamps that will carry each person's duffles from camp to camp. Once we leave Plaza Argentina Basecamp for Camp 1 our pack weight will increase. Plan for between 40-50 lbs if you elect to carry all your own gear. There is also the option to hire a personal porter on the upper mountain to lighten your pack load to closer to 25 lbs.
What boots do I need?
Although we will never walk on glaciers Aconcagua can get extremely cold. It is one of the windiest places on the planet - add high altitudes and you will see very low temps. As a result, at a minimum we need to bring double mountaineering boots.
Who will be the guide?
We send an American guide on all of our international trips unlike most guide services. We've found that a guide that is fluent in English, properly trained, and fun to climb with makes all of the difference for a successful and safe trip to climb peaks in foregin countries. We'll connect you with your guide prior to the trip.
Is it safe?
Yes, climbing Aconcagua can be very safe if done correctly. We prioritize acclimatization and rest days, and your guide will always be by your side to ensure you are operating at your best. We also partner with trained Basecamp doctors who perform medical checks before we head to Camp 1.
What is the cost for a personal porter?
The cost generally increases year to year, but in the 2024/2025 season it cost climbers $1,280 for a personal porter to carry 20 Kg from Plaza Argentina to Camp 1, Camp 1 to Camp 2, Camp 2 to Camp 3, and from Camp 3 down to Plaza de Mulas. It is not necesary to hire a porter for the entire climb, you can break it down into sections and just pay for the extra help when needed.
